Gubernatorial supporters mailing list card files, 1972-1978.

The Governor is the chief executive officer of the state of Alabama (Alabama Government Manual, 1990). As part of the daily office procedures, Governor George C. Wallace's staff created the mailing list card files during his second and third terms in office from 1971-1979. The card files enabled Governor Wallace to remain in contact with individuals who had supported his gubernatorial campaigns and with individuals associated with organizations such as labor unions, fraternal orders, and political clubs. The mailing list is composed of index cards which contain the name, address, and telephone number of various individuals and organizations. The county of residence in Alabama is also noted. Some cards state the type of letter Governor Wallace should send to the individual such as a Christmas card or a congratulatory note. Many of the cards contain handwritten notes that update the information about an individual's address or telephone number.
